Will Kratom Show Up While Drug Testing?

Drug Testing for Kratom

There is some concern with those using kratom they purchased at Detox Doctor. People are concerned that there might be a problem when applying for certain jobs. People have asked; “Is it possible to detect kratom in urinalysis drug testing ?”

In short, yes… but read on. There has been one documented case of a person’s urine undergoing drug testing for mitragynine (kratom). This test however, was specialty designed to detect kratom. Consumption of mitragynine can lead to a detectable amount of mitragynine residue and its metabolite in urine. Kratom however, is NOT tested for in even the most extensive drug testing that a person would encounter in a normal drug-screening situation.

Whether you are undergoing drug testing for a new job, for parole, or otherwise; they will not test for mitragynine.

Drug Testing for KratomIs Kratom even Illegal in the U.S.?

Since kratom is legal in all North America and many European Union countries, there is no reason for drug testing kits for it.

“Can  kratom usage cause a false positive result while drug testing?”. Simply said, It will not.

The alkaloids and metabolites of mitragynine are chemically different from anything being tested for in standard drug testing. It is not possible that mitragynine could cause a false positive for morphine, methadone  or anything else.

Some medications and supplements however can result in a false positive on a drug test.  Ibuprofen and pseudo-ephedrine are known examples. Also black poppy seeds, found on bagels, can show as an opiate as well, since they have a 2 day half life.

Military test facilities actually went to hair tests as opposed to urine. Why? Because while in training, they had the black poppy seed bagels as part of the morning snacks. 10 out of 10 people tested positive for opiates (heroin) after eating a bagel and taking a urine alalysis the same day.

When being tested, make sure to inform the testing entity about all legal prescription drugs and OTC medicines you are taking. There is no need to tell them about your kratom use however.

Have you had an experience with drug testing that the testing agency actually TESTED for mitragynine? If so, we’d like to hear about it. Please Detox Doctor your story in the comments section or send an email to Doctor@DetoxDoctorUSA.com.
