Why Use Kratom?
Kratom has been used in South-East Asia for centuries because of its pain killing properties although neither Kratom, or its alkaloids have been utilized in modern-day medicine. Mitragynine has less analgesic effects than morphine, but it does not cause significant dependence, making it potentially useful in treating minor to moderate pain. Generally there is a high amount of mitragynine in the Kratom plant, making it practical to extract for use in pain management. 7-hydrohydroxymitragynine has been shown to have much stronger analgesic effects than , but it is less abundant than mitragynine in the Kratom plant. It might not be practical to extract these alkaloids from the Kratom plant using current technology, but if mitragynine can be converted into 7-hydrohydroxymitragynine, it could one day emerge as a cheaper, ALL NATURAL replacement for modern pain management medications.
Opiate Detox or Substitute
Kratom can lessen the severity of withdrawals from opiates, giving Kratom an advantage over modern treatment methods involving drugs such as methadone . Though it is not fully known yet as to how Kratom eases opiate withdrawals, there are some likely reasons; opiates tend to bind to mu and delta opioid receptors in the brain, which is why opiate users experience powerful euphoric effects. The euphoric effect, however, is a result of the opiate with the mu opioid receptors, often associated with addiction. Kratom’s active alkaloids tend to bind only with delta opioid receptors, which causes little, if any, addiction. It is possible that a small amount of binding occurs with the mu receptors, but this is at a level too low to cause moderate addiction. Some claim that the mu binding action can increase if large amounts of mitragynine are consumed, but this is not yet clear.
Since Kratom affects the brain much like opiates; Kratom has been a popular opiate substitute in parts of South-East Asia for centuries. Many opium addicts in Thailand are reported to chew Kratom leaves if opium is not available. In most cases, Kratom is just used as a substitute until more can be acquired, though some users do combine the two.
Some users claim that Kratom allows them to perform sexually for a much longer period of time than normal. For many people, Kratom reduces the sensitivity in the sexual organs, thus requiring more time to reach an orgasm. In others however, Kratom has been reported to have a negative effect on sexual performance, causing temporary erectile problems. Quality and amount of Kratom ingested, as well as the specific body chemistry of the user are all factors that can effect your personal experience.
There have been some claims that Kratom can reduce the chances of getting some forms of cancer. There is absolutely no scientific research to back these claims up. Hopefully, someday very soon, there will be some research available on this subject.
Health Risks of Kratom
Kratom appears to be very safe when taken responsibly. As with most 100% natural substances, a person who consumes too much Kratom will experience nausea and vomit the consumed Kratom before their body will absorb enough alkaloids to cause an overdose. There have been conflicting statements made on the amount of alkaloids needed to cause an overdose. Some pin the number at 5 grams, while others say as little as 800 milligrams could cause an overdose. When reading this, it is important to remember that these numbers are regarding pure alkaloids and not the plant matter itself. 800 milligrams of alkaloids is relatively close to 65 grams of plant matter, depending on the potency. Also remember, an overdose does not mean death, it’s a range in which there are significantly higher risks of life threatening problems. To date, there have been NO documented cases of Kratom overdose.
Consumption of Kratom does have possible side effects such as nausea, constipation, sleep problems, and temporary erectile dysfunction. Extensive use can cause some problems such as insomnia, anorexia, weight loss, darkening of skin, and dry mouth.
There are reports of a small number of Kratom users in South-East Asia experiencing more severe problems from extensive consumption of the plant. Problems such as , delusional behavior, aggression and schizophrenia seemed to exist in a very small number of users. Some of these users were also using drugs such as alcohol, marijuana and opium and as well. Any one of these drugs could have caused these severe symptoms, so it is questionable to assume that Kratom caused any or all of these problems. Some subjects who did not use other drugs did display symptoms, but these were long time users, some as much as 40 years of daily heavy consumption. It seems unlikely that users outside South-East Asia face the same risks, as most recreational users don’t consume anywhere near the same amount of Kratom as people from South-East Asia. It is recommended that new Kratom users start with smaller doses to avoid potential negative effects. Avoid driving and operating heavy machinery. Use caution when mixing substances with Kratom. There appears to be no information regarding Kratom use and interactions with other substances, however, but if you take other substances, do not use Kratom.
Almost any substance can be habit forming, and Kratom is no exception. Unlike opiates, however, Kratom does not produce a strong addiction, especially at doses lower than those generally taken outside South-East Asia. Though a tolerance can easily be built, the body does not seem to crave Kratom, or any of its active alkaloids. After prolonged use, some minor withdrawal symptoms can be noticed such as runny nose, aggression and slight muscle pains.
Proper dosage of Kratom can greatly vary depending on factors such as potency and the body chemistry of the user. The specific Kratom available at Detox Doctor is a “Premium Kratom” and is often effective at a range of 3 to 5 grams. Some new users can notice the effects with as little as 2 grams while experienced users might feel comfortable taking up to 10 grams.
Weaker forms of Kratom can easily be found online with just a few simple Google searches. Should you find your way to buying Kratom online, be wary. Low quality Kratom often requires users to ingest more than 10 grams for a single dose. In rare cases, extremely low quality Kratom can require a dose of 20 grams or more. Such doses are occasionally accompanied by mild to severe nausea. Low-grade Kratom is known for giving powerful hangovers if large doses are attempted. The quality and potency of Kratom can easily be compromised by factors including poor storage as well as the age of the Kratom. Since Kratom potency can vary so widely, it is recommended that new users acquire their Kratom from respected and trusted distributors like Detox Doctor, rather than buying pre-packaged Kratom that could have been on shelves for a year or MORE.
